Pakistan has 105 active agreements with Independent Power Producers (IPPs), with some contracts set to remain in force beyond 2050, according to documents presented in Parliament.

Data from the Ministry of Energy shows that most of these agreements still have more than 20 years left on their contractual terms, keeping the government tied to long-term commitments in the power sector.

The documents also show that the current government signed four new IPP agreements in 2025.

One of these was a 30-year agreement with Jamshoro Coal Power Plant, signed on July 30, 2025. The government separately signed a three-year agreement with Kot Addu Power Plant on June 3, 2025.

The data further reveals that 27 IPP agreements were signed during the PTI government, with most of those contracts also having more than 20 years remaining.

The long-running agreements mean some power sector commitments will continue well into the 2050s.
