The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) is preparing to launch online biometric verification through the PakID app for individual taxpayers, sole proprietors and overseas Pakistanis in the first week of September 2026.

The new service will allow eligible taxpayers to complete biometric verification remotely, removing the need to visit a physical verification centre.

NADRA has already developed the facility and is now working with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to have PakID formally accepted as an alternative to the existing e-Sahulat biometric verification process.

The move comes after concerns over the annual biometric verification requirement, particularly from overseas Pakistanis who face difficulties completing the process while living abroad.

Under the proposed system, eligible taxpayers will be able to complete their biometric verification through the PakID app from anywhere in the world.

NADRA said the digital facility is intended to make the verification process easier for individual taxpayers and small business owners while reducing the need for physical visits.

The authority has also sought a formal arrangement with the FBR so that PakID verification can be used alongside e-Sahulat as another authentication option.

The development follows a request from the Faisalabad Chamber of Small Traders & Small Industry regarding the difficulties associated with annual biometric verification and the need for a remote option for overseas Pakistanis.

If recognised by the FBR, the PakID facility would give taxpayers a second channel for completing their mandatory biometric verification.

NADRA said the initiative supports the government’s digitalisation and ease-of-doing-business efforts.

However, the first-week-of-September launch remains tentative, while FBR’s formal recognition of PakID as an alternative verification method is still under process.
