The federal government has formally started implementing a new pension system for federal civil servants, marking a key step in its broader reform agenda to reduce the rising pension burden on the national budget.
The Ministry of Finance has issued implementation guidelines and directed all federal ministries, divisions, and departments to begin executing the new framework without delay.
Under the instructions, every ministry and division must identify employees covered under the new pension system and submit updated records to the Accountant General Pakistan Revenues (AGPR) within 15 days.
To ensure smooth implementation, each ministry and division has been asked to nominate a Grade-17 or higher officer as a focal person responsible for coordinating all matters related to the new pension arrangement.
The Human Resources Wing of the Ministry of Finance will supervise the rollout, while the Controller General of Accounts, in collaboration with the AGPR, will consolidate employee information required for the transition.
Officials have been directed to organize employee records by ministry, division, department, and grade to facilitate the implementation process and maintain accurate pension data.
The Finance Ministry has instructed all concerned organizations to complete the required formalities within the prescribed timeline, giving priority to the nationwide rollout of the new pension system across the federal government.
