Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has launched a comprehensive review of the performance of federal ministers and ministries as the government weighs a possible cabinet reshuffle and changes in the senior bureaucracy, according to sources.
The Prime Minister’s Office has directed all federal ministries and divisions to submit performance reports covering the period from February 2024 to the present. The reports will be used to evaluate the performance of cabinet members and help determine their future roles.
As part of the review, the prime minister is also holding one-on-one meetings with federal ministers to assess progress, key achievements, and the performance of their respective ministries. The evaluation process is expected to conclude later this month.
Sources said the government is considering changes to both the federal cabinet and senior bureaucracy after the review is completed. Ministers of State who have demonstrated strong performance may also be promoted to the rank of Federal Minister.
According to sources, performance reports from two government institutions have already been submitted to the Prime Minister’s Office.
Meanwhile, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has proposed a broader evaluation of cabinet members, including an independent third-party audit of ministry performance.
Any cabinet reshuffle is expected after the completion of the performance review. Sources said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will also consult PML-N President Nawaz Sharif before making final decisions, with both performance assessments and political considerations expected to shape the outcome.
