Pakistan has completed its first-ever marine bunkering operation at Gwadar Port, with an international LNG carrier receiving fuel at the deep-sea port for the first time, marking a major step in the country’s maritime services.
The vessel, LNG ENUGU, was supplied with 2,500 metric tons of Very Low Sulfur Fuel Oil (VLSFO) produced by Cnergyico PK Limited in compliance with International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards.
The fueling operation was executed by global energy trader Vitol using its bunker barge Marine Ista, in partnership with the National Logistics Corporation (NLC).
With Gwadar now operational for marine bunkering, Pakistan can provide internationally compliant fuel supply services at all three of its major commercial ports—Karachi Port, Port Qasim, and Gwadar Port.
The service operates under the Pakistan Single Window system and electronic customs marine bunkering regulations, enabling a standardized and internationally recognized framework for supplying fuel to commercial vessels.
Officials said the milestone enhances Pakistan’s maritime infrastructure, broadens the range of services available at Gwadar, and positions the country to compete for a larger share of the regional marine fuel market that has traditionally been dominated by hubs such as Fujairah and Singapore.
The operation also marks the first occasion on which an ocean-going commercial vessel has been bunkered at Gwadar Port, further strengthening Pakistan’s shipping, logistics, and energy capabilities.
