The Lahore Heritage Areas Revival Board (LHAR) has clarified its position regarding Ewing Hall in Anarkali, Lahore, amid recent public concern, stating that the historic structure will not be demolished and will instead be preserved and restored.
According to the LHAR statement, Ewing Hall was leased in 1915 for use as student hostel accommodation. The building has reportedly remained unused for its intended educational and hostel purpose since 2015. The statement added that rental arrears exceeding Rs. 10 crore (around Rs. 107 million) accumulated over time despite multiple reminders and official notices.
The statement further said that the Board of Revenue, Punjab issued a show-cause notice in March 2026, allowing all concerned parties to present their stance. After hearings involving Forman Christian College and the Higher Education Department, the Member (Colonies) passed an order on April 27, 2026, resuming the property in favour of the provincial government following due legal process.
LHAR maintained that the action was the outcome of a lengthy legal procedure and not an abrupt decision. It reiterated that there are no plans to demolish Ewing Hall.
The board added that both LHAR and the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) are committed to conserving Lahore’s heritage structures and that Ewing Hall will be restored in line with its original architectural character.
Reaffirming its stance, LHAR said it holds deep respect for Forman Christian College, its historical role, and the communities associated with it. It emphasized that the matter is administrative and legal in nature, not targeted at any institution or group, and expressed willingness to engage all stakeholders in dialogue.
