The Port Qasim Authority has handled the largest liquefied natural gas cargo in its history after successfully berthing a Q-Flex LNG carrier at its terminal, according to a statement issued on Wednesday.

The cargo arrived aboard Al Kharratiyat from Qatar. The vessel entered the Port Qasim channel early in the morning and was safely berthed at the Engro LNG Terminal at 10 a.m.

According to the authority, the operation involved a cargo volume of 210,250 cubic metres and 92,510 metric tonnes of LNG, making it the biggest LNG handling operation ever carried out at the port. The vessel is carrying two LNG parcels, which will be discharged in phases.

Port Qasim said the successful berthing was particularly significant given the operational challenges linked to its navigation channel, which stretches around 49 kilometres from the Arabian Sea to the berth. The channel is considered one of the world’s largest LNG navigation routes and requires highly precise tidal timing and draft management, especially as monsoon-related constraints begin to intensify.

Apart from LNG operations, Port Qasim remains one of the country’s main gateways for commercial cargo, handling containerized shipments, dry and liquid bulk cargo, coal, rice, cement, steel, and petroleum products.

The authority said the milestone reflects the role of advanced systems, digitalization, and round-the-clock operations in ensuring smooth vessel movement and supporting Pakistan’s trade and maritime importance.

It added that the operation was completed through coordinated efforts involving QatarEnergy as the loading operator, Nakilat as the vessel owner, Engro LNG Terminal as the receiving terminal, Pakistan State Oil as the supply chain partner, and Port Qasim’s marine operations team.

According to the authority, close coordination among all stakeholders, along with technical expertise in tidal and draft planning, helped ensure the successful execution of the operation.hnical expertise in tidal and draft planning, helped ensure the successful execution of the operation.
