A private bank’s appeal has been rejected by the Federal Constitutional Court, which ordered it to return funds to a citizen who fell victim to online banking fraud.
The court was hearing a case involving a resident of Layyah whose account was compromised in 2022, leading to the unauthorized withdrawal of approximately Rs. 15.34 lakh.
During the proceedings, Justice Aamer Farooq remarked that cybercriminals are increasingly embedded within or exploiting weaknesses in banking systems, stressing that financial institutions carry the primary responsibility to secure their digital infrastructure against such threats.
He further noted the rising scale of digital fraud, sharing that even he had received scam calls himself, underscoring how widespread the problem has become.
After reviewing the case, the court upheld the victim’s claim and directed the bank to fully reimburse the stolen amount.
