The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved a pilot initiative allowing the temporary import of used vehicles and spare parts for repair, refurbishment, and re-export purposes.

The approval came during an ECC meeting chaired by Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, where the Commerce Division presented proposed amendments to the Import Policy Order 2022 and the Export Facilitation Scheme 2021.

Under the new arrangement, businesses will be permitted to import used vehicles and auto components strictly for processing and value addition. Authorities clarified that these imports will not enter the domestic market and must be exported after refurbishment.

Officials said the pilot project is intended to promote export-oriented industrial activity, develop technical capabilities in the automotive sector, and create new business opportunities linked to vehicle reconditioning.

The ECC directed that the scheme’s performance be reviewed after one year to assess its economic impact and determine whether the policy should be continued or expanded.
