The Sindh government has fixed the wheat support price at Rs. 3,500 per maund and set a procurement target of 1 million metric tons, as it moves to support farmers ahead of the procurement season.
Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the decision reflects the provincial government’s farmer-focused policy and is aimed at strengthening the agriculture sector.
He said the government has also removed the wheat sales limit and scrapped the condition of five bags per acre, allowing growers to sell their produce more freely at official procurement centers.
According to the minister, the move is expected to ease hurdles for farmers, particularly small growers, by improving their access to government purchasing channels and helping them secure better prices for their wheat.
Memon said authorities have been instructed to speed up the procurement campaign and take focused steps in districts where procurement remains slow so that the overall target can be achieved.
He also said Sindh Bank had played an important role in supporting farmers by providing fuel subsidies within one day, calling the process transparent and efficient. Timely payments worth millions of rupees, he added, have helped strengthen farmers’ confidence in the system.
