Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, launched his engagements at the World Bank–IMF Spring Meetings 2026 with a meeting in Washington, D.C. with Ms. Anna Bjerde, Managing Director (Operations) of the World Bank Group.
The Finance Minister acknowledged and appreciated the World Bank Group’s continued support for Pakistan’s economic reform and development efforts. Both sides discussed the country’s economic outlook, including the impact of ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and their secondary economic effects.
The two sides emphasized the importance of strengthening social protection systems to help protect vulnerable populations from external economic pressures.
They also reviewed progress under the Country Partnership Framework (CPF). While noting improvements in several areas, both sides agreed that continued efforts are necessary to fully achieve its objectives.
The Finance Minister further highlighted the need for better coordination between federal and provincial governments to address Pakistan’s demographic challenges more effectively. He also requested the World Bank Group’s support in preparing a comprehensive national master plan to tackle these issues.
