Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Leghari has cautioned that Pakistan’s ongoing energy challenges could eventually impact electricity prices, as shortages extend beyond oil to include gas and furnace oil supplies.
In a statement posted on X, the minister said disruptions in multiple fuel sources are placing additional strain on power generation, raising concerns about increased production costs in the electricity sector.

To manage the situation, the federal government has begun consultations with provincial authorities on revising market operating hours and introducing broader energy conservation measures aimed at reducing nationwide consumption.
Leghari emphasized that the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, is working to shield citizens from additional financial burden and prevent further pressure on electricity bills.
He urged the public and businesses to adopt energy-saving practices, stating that collective conservation efforts can ease national demand, stabilize the energy system, and help accelerate economic recovery.
Officials are expected to continue discussions with provinces in the coming days as policymakers explore coordinated steps to control energy usage and maintain stability in Pakistan’s power sector.
