The National Information Technology Board (NITB) has requested Rs. 208 million for the Smart Islamabad Project in the 2026-27 budget, as the initiative marks 20% physical progress.
The 24-month project, with a total estimated cost of Rs. 708.384 million, has yet to record any financial expenditure, despite implementation being underway. Managed through the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, the project aims to enhance governance, security, and public service delivery by integrating real-time data across city operations.
At the heart of the initiative is a central Fusion Center, which will connect agencies like Safe City Islamabad, the Capital Development Authority (CDA), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for smarter traffic management and urban monitoring.
Officials cited delays due to the late issuance of a No Objection Certificate, though procurement is now progressing following Stage I completion of the Request for Proposal. The Smart Islamabad Project is being positioned as a blueprint for future smart city development across Pakistan.
