US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that Iran, signaling seriousness in peace talks, allowed 10 Pakistani-flagged oil tankers to pass through the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking during a White House Cabinet meeting, Trump referred to this move as a “gift” from Tehran, intended to demonstrate commitment to negotiations aimed at ending regional tensions. He noted that earlier this week, eight major tankers had been permitted passage, followed by two more, bringing the total to ten vessels.

“I believe they were serious, and I think these were Pakistani-flagged ships, and ultimately the number reached 10,” Trump said, clarifying comments he had made earlier this week about a significant “gift” from Iran.

The White House did not immediately provide further details on the tankers.

Trump’s remarks come as he continues to pressure Iran to agree to a deal that keeps the vital maritime route open while curbing Tehran’s nuclear program. On Tuesday, he had surprised observers by noting that Iran had given the U.S. a major concession related to energy, without providing specifics at the time.

“They gave us a gift, and it arrived today. It was a very big gift with huge value,” Trump told reporters.
