Pakistan’s air travelers are facing a major financial shock as jet fuel prices have nearly tripled, jumping from PKR 176 to PKR 417 per liter. The unprecedented surge has forced airlines to raise ticket prices, passing the burden directly onto passengers.

Fuel surcharges on domestic flights have increased by $10 to $100, while base fares remain the same. As a result, one-way tickets on key domestic routes, such as Karachi to Islamabad or Lahore, now cost up to PKR 40,000.

PIA has implemented a $10 fuel surcharge for local flights, while international routes face steeper charges: $100 for Canada, $75 for the UK, and $50 for Saudi Arabia and Gulf destinations. Private airlines have also applied additional fees ranging from $15 to $150.

International economy class tickets have seen dramatic price hikes, with fares to the Middle East, Toronto, Paris, and Manchester now ranging between PKR 300,000 and PKR 700,000. Airline officials attribute the surge to skyrocketing fuel costs and ongoing Gulf airspace restrictions.

Passengers warn that if jet fuel prices continue to climb, total airfare could increase by up to 100%, making air travel a luxury few can afford.
