Iran has confirmed that the Strait of Hormuz is still open to maritime traffic, but access will not be granted to vessels it associates with hostile nations.

The announcement comes after a warning from U.S. President Donald Trump, who threatened action against Iranian power facilities if the key waterway was not fully open within 48 hours.

Rising tensions linked to the U.S.-Israel conflict with Iran have already disrupted shipping through the narrow passage, which carries a significant share of global oil and gas supplies, raising fears of wider energy market instability.

Ali Mousavi, Iran’s representative to the International Maritime Organization, said Tehran is prepared to coordinate with international bodies to ensure safe navigation in the Gulf. He added that ships not tied to adversaries could pass through by aligning with Iran’s security arrangements.

Mousavi stressed that diplomacy remains Tehran’s preferred path, while also attributing the current situation to recent military actions by the U.S. and Israel.
