Employees of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) have announced a protest over the non-payment of the Eid allowance promised under an existing agreement. According to the CDA Workers Union (CBA), the allowance has been provided to employees on religious festivals since 2006 under a formal agreement approved by the CDA Board.

Union General Secretary Chaudhry Muhammad Yaseen stated that this year’s allowance had already been approved in line with the board’s decision and the mutual agreement, and an official notification had also been issued. However, the implementation was later halted, sparking serious concern and anger among CDA employees.

The union strongly condemned the move, saying the Eid allowance is the legitimate right of all employees and was approved through a board decision in 2006 following demands by the workers’ union. Since then, the allowance has been paid to employees without discrimination on the occasion of their religious festivals.

The union further said that issuing a notification and then suspending its implementation violates both the agreement and the law, and has negatively affected employees’ preparations for the upcoming Eid celebrations.

The CDA Workers Union has announced a protest on March 17 at 10:00 AM in front of the CDA Chairman’s office in Islamabad. Central office-bearers, CBA committee representatives, union members, and a large number of employees are expected to participate.

The union has appealed to the Government of Pakistan, the Ministry of Interior, the CDA Chairman, and other relevant authorities to immediately release the Eid allowance in accordance with the agreement. It said the step is necessary to maintain industrial harmony in the federal capital and ensure that thousands of employees can celebrate Eid without financial hardship.
