Pakistan’s trade deficit contracted by 7.5 percent year-on-year to $2.119 billion in March 2025, compared to $2.288 billion in the same month last year, according to data released Thursday by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
Exports rose to $2.6 billion, showing a 1.9 percent year-on-year increase and a 5.1 percent month-on-month improvement. Meanwhile, imports declined to $4.7 billion, representing a 2.5 percent year-on-year decrease and a 1.1 percent reduction from the previous month.
Despite the monthly improvement, the trade deficit for the first nine months of fiscal year 2025 (July-March) widened by 4.5 percent year-on-year to $17.9 billion. During this period, exports grew by 7.7 percent to $24.69 billion, while imports increased by 6.3 percent to $42.58 billion compared to the same period in FY24.
