The process for granting a license to Starlink, Elon Musk’s satellite internet service provider, is moving forward in phases, according to the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO). The regulatory body has already issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to Starlink, marking a significant step toward its launch in Pakistan.

According to reports, the next phase involves issuing a license to Starlink. The PTA estimates that it will take approximately six months for the company to become fully operational in the country. Starlink plans to provide direct internet services to Pakistani users through its Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites.

To proceed, Starlink will be required to pay a licensing fee of $640,000 to the PTA. The company has already submitted its application for the license, along with its technical and financial plans, according to PTA officials.

The PTA is currently conducting an internal review of all aspects related to Starlink’s licensing. Once the review is complete, the final decision will be made by the PTA chairman and its three members. Sources indicate that the license is expected to be issued within the next few weeks.

Following the issuance of the license, Starlink will be able to start accepting bookings from Pakistani customers for its internet services. The company will also be permitted to install its equipment across the country. To support its operations, Starlink plans to establish two to three ground stations in Pakistan.

Starlink’s launch is expected to revolutionize internet connectivity in Pakistan, particularly in remote areas that are currently beyond the reach of cable internet or cellular networks. Additionally, the pricing for Starlink’s services in Pakistan is anticipated to be more affordable compared to the United States and other developed countries, making it accessible to a wider audience.
