The Ministry of Interior has disclosed that 71,849 computerized national identity cards (CNICs) were blocked across Pakistan over the past five years due to various reasons, including verification issues. The statistics were presented during the Question Hour in the National Assembly.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reported the highest number of blocked CNICs, with 25,981 cards affected. Punjab followed with over 13,000 blocked CNICs, while Sindh recorded 9,677. In Balochistan, 20,583 CNICs were blocked, while the federal capital, Islamabad, saw 1,370 blocked cards. Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) reported 446 and 228 blocked CNICs, respectively.

The ministry also highlighted progress in resolving these cases. A total of 44,460 CNICs have been unblocked after completing the necessary verification process.
