The Regional Tax Office (RTO) Islamabad sealed two well-known restaurants in the capital on Monday after receiving complaints from citizens about the issuance of fake receipts and invoices. The action is part of the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) ongoing drive to bring Tier-1 retailers and restaurants under the tax net through the Point of Sale (POS) invoicing system.
According to an official statement from the FBR, a team from RTO Islamabad, led by the Deputy Commissioner, investigated the complaints and confirmed that the receipts issued by the restaurants were counterfeit. Following this, the team sealed the two restaurants along with their subsidiary branches in Islamabad and imposed a total penalty of Rs. 1 million.
The FBR emphasized its commitment to curbing the culture of fake invoices and ensuring tax compliance through strict enforcement of tax regulations. “We are determined to discourage the fake invoices culture and ensure tax compliance through effective enforcement of tax regulations,” the statement read.
This is not the first time such action has been taken. In November, the RTO Islamabad sealed five prominent restaurants in the city for similar violations involving fake invoices. However, as with the previous cases, the names of the restaurants involved have not been disclosed by the FBR.
