At least 335 Pakistanis have died while attempting to reach Europe through illegal sea migration routes over the past four years, according to official data compiled by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
The documents reveal that the FIA has documented seven major migrant boat disasters since June 2023, exposing the continued risks posed by human smuggling networks operating across the Mediterranean.
The deadliest tragedy occurred in June 2023, when a vessel carrying 226 Pakistani migrants sank en route to Greece. Only 19 passengers survived, while 207 Pakistanis lost their lives.
Another boat travelling to Greece met a similar fate in December 2024. The vessel was carrying 69 Pakistanis, of whom 25 died and 44 were rescued.
In January 2025, another migrant boat carrying 70 Pakistanis capsized near Morocco. A month later, a separate boat disaster off the coast of Libya involved 40 identified Pakistani nationals. FIA records show 23 Pakistanis were killed, while 13 survived that incident.
The documents further show that three additional major boat sinkings linked to illegal migration from Libya took place during 2025-26, in April 2025, October 2025, and April 2026. Together, these incidents affected 62 Pakistani migrants.
According to the FIA’s compiled figures, Libya-linked boat disasters alone claimed 48 Pakistani lives, while 30 people were rescued.
The latest data highlights the continuing human toll of illegal migration to Europe, with hundreds of Pakistanis dying in overcrowded and unsafe boats operated by human smuggling networks.
