The Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) has seized 200 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as “ice,” from a container at Karachi Port and arrested an Afghan national and a local facilitator.

According to the ANF, the Afghan suspect, identified as Ehsanullah, provided information during questioning about another drug shipment sent to Colombo.

The ANF shared the intelligence with Sri Lankan authorities and the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), which helped lead to an operation at Colombo Port.

Sri Lankan and US authorities had announced two days earlier that they had seized nearly half a tonne of crystal meth linked to a drug trafficking network operating through Pakistan.

On September 2, Sri Lanka’s Police Narcotics Bureau and the DEA said they recovered around 463 kilograms of methamphetamine hidden in bath towels at Colombo Port. Several suspects, including Pakistani nationals, were arrested.

The seized drugs were estimated to be worth around $21 million and were allegedly destined for international markets.

The ANF said the Karachi operation exposed an Afghanistan-based international drug trafficking organization that was attempting to use Pakistan as a transit route for sending narcotics to overseas markets.

The agency said local facilitators involved in the Karachi operation were also arrested.

The ANF added that its intelligence sharing helped Sri Lankan and US authorities take action against the wider trafficking network. It said the cooperation was formally appreciated by both Sri Lankan authorities and the US DEA.

The latest operation highlights growing international coordination between Pakistan, Sri Lanka and US agencies against cross-border drug trafficking.
