The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a nationwide advisory warning WhatsApp users that accounts linked to inactive, blocked, deactivated, or unregistered SIM cards may soon become inaccessible.
According to PTA, mobile numbers are now a core part of digital identity, and users must ensure that the SIM linked to their WhatsApp account remains active and registered in their own name. Accounts associated with invalid or inactive SIMs may face restricted access, including loss of chats, contacts, and account recovery issues.
The regulator advised users to immediately verify and update their WhatsApp-linked number if their current SIM has become inactive or is not properly registered. PTA cautioned that failure to do so could result in sudden logouts and difficulty in regaining access to accounts.
Users who require SIM verification or biometric revalidation have been directed to visit their nearest mobile franchise or customer service center. PTA emphasized that biometric verification is essential for maintaining secure telecom services and preventing misuse of mobile identities.
In its public awareness message, PTA urged citizens to protect their digital identity and keep their mobile records updated. It also directed users to its official channels for guidance, including its WhatsApp helpline at 0315-0055055, under the slogan: “Protect Your WhatsApp, Protect Your Digital Identity.”
