Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman has announced that mobile users can transfer their eSIM to another compatible smartphone free of charge up to 10 times.
Speaking at a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat, the PTA chief said the policy is intended to make it easier for consumers to switch devices without incurring additional costs.
The clarification comes as the regulator seeks to accelerate the adoption of eSIM technology across Pakistan. The PTA has already initiated discussions with mobile operators to lower eSIM issuance charges from the current Rs. 2,000 to a range of Rs. 1,000-1,500, with further reductions expected as demand grows.
Unlike conventional SIM cards, eSIMs are built into compatible devices and can be activated digitally, eliminating the need for a physical SIM card. The technology enables users to manage mobile connections more conveniently and is increasingly available on newer smartphones, tablets, smartwatches and other connected devices.
