Efforts to revive diplomacy between the United States and Iran remain stalled after Tehran confirmed that no timeline has been set for the next round of talks, highlighting deep divisions over the future direction of negotiations.

Iranian officials indicated that discussions cannot resume until both sides finalize a preliminary framework outlining the scope and principles of any potential agreement. Authorities warned that entering negotiations without clear mutual understanding risks worsening tensions rather than resolving disputes.

The latest round of high-level engagement, held in Islamabad, ended without an agreement despite being viewed as a rare opportunity for progress in one of the world’s most sensitive geopolitical confrontations.

Although U.S. President Donald Trump signaled optimism about possible follow-up meetings, diplomatic insiders suggested that political disagreements and logistical challenges make an immediate restart unlikely.

Tehran maintains that negotiations showed signs of advancement but ultimately faltered due to what it described as excessive American demands concerning Iran’s nuclear activities. Iranian officials argue that any deal must align with established international legal standards and cannot impose special restrictions targeting Iran alone.

Meanwhile, regional tensions have also centered on the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil transit route. Iranian authorities reaffirmed their commitment to allowing commercial shipping under existing ceasefire arrangements, while cautioning that any perceived breach of agreed terms could trigger countermeasures.

With no negotiation date in sight and fundamental disagreements unresolved, the diplomatic process now faces renewed uncertainty, raising concerns that the fragile pause in regional tensions could once again unravel.
