Shahrukh Ali, Director General of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) underscored the government’s commitment to promoting eco-friendly tourism, emphasizing sustainable practices that drive economic growth while preserving the environment and cultural heritage. This announcement comes as Galiyat Valley saw a significant increase in visitors, with over 1 million tourists this year.
In an interview with a private news channel on World Tourism Day, Shahrukh Ali stated, “We are dedicated to sustainable tourism practices that not only drive economic growth but also safeguard the unique environment and cultural heritage of our region.” He highlighted the potential of Galiyat Valley to become a leading sustainable tourism destination, showcasing Pakistan’s natural beauty and commitment to environmental conservation.
World Tourism Day, celebrated on September 27, aims to raise awareness about the social, cultural, political, and economic significance of tourism, as well as its role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The theme for 2024, “Tourism and Peace,” emphasizes tourism’s role in fostering international understanding, cultural exchange, and global peace.
The Galiyat Tourism Authority is spearheading efforts to promote eco-friendly tourism in the region, including the development of modern parking facilities to enhance the tourist experience. Additionally, more than 50 hotels and guest houses in Galiyat have been registered to ensure high-quality accommodations and services. This initiative aims to standardize services, boost the local economy, and increase transparency in tourism operations.
Shahrukh Ali stated that focusing on sustainable tourism will help preserve Galiyat’s natural beauty while offering visitors a unique experience. These initiatives align with the global theme of World Tourism Day, promoting responsible tourism that supports economic growth, cultural exchange, and environmental conservation.
He assured that these efforts are expected to further enhance tourism in the area, supporting local businesses and creating job opportunities.
