The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed heavy selling on Monday as renewed political uncertainty pushed the benchmark KSE-100 Index down by more than 2,200 points.

The index dropped as much as 2,391 points during intraday trading before closing at 165,867, down 2,288 points or 1.36 percent.

Uncertainty over international crude oil prices also added to concerns about the economic outlook, keeping investors cautious.

With no strong positive triggers to support the market, investors reduced their positions, leading to broad-based selling across several sectors.

UBL, ENGROH, HBL, HUBC and PPL were among the biggest drags on the index, collectively accounting for a 705-point decline.

Market activity remained relatively subdued, with around 441 million shares traded during the session. Total traded value stood at approximately Rs. 15.7 billion.

FNEL remained the most actively traded stock, with around 50 million shares changing hands.
