Electricity consumers could face an additional Rs. 1.73 per unit in their bills under the proposed August Fuel Charges Adjustment after the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority concluded its hearing on the Central Power Purchasing Agency’s petition.
NEPRA reserved its decision and said it will issue a detailed ruling after reviewing the financial data and calculations presented during the hearing. The proposed adjustment is broadly in line with the Rs. 1.7267 per unit sought by CPPA earlier.
The proposed adjustment could place an estimated additional burden of Rs. 29.5 billion on electricity consumers, including those in K-Electric areas. CPPA officials said Rs. 20.7142 billion of the amount is directly linked to payments to Independent Power Producers.
Total electricity generation in August stood at 14.464 billion units, with an average generation cost of Rs. 8.82 per unit. Hydropower accounted for 37.84 percent of generation, followed by imported coal at 15.59 percent, local coal at 10.86 percent, LNG at 8.48 percent, and local gas at 7.04 percent.
LNG-based generation was the most expensive major source, with costs reaching Rs. 45.92 per unit.
CPPA also presented several adjustment claims during the hearing, including Rs. 1.3246 billion for Chashma Nuclear Power Plant C2, Rs. 528.1 million for Tavanir Iran, Rs. 183.8 million for Punjab Thermal Power Private, and Rs. 159 million for Thar Coal Block I Power Generation Company.
Other claims included Rs. 36.1 million plus Rs. 1.6 million in CV adjustments for Nishat Power Limited, Rs. 26.3 million for Engro Powergen Thar, Rs. 13.9 million for Narowal Energy Limited, and Rs. 286,000 for Lucky Electric Power Company. A provisional adjustment of Rs. 10.6168 billion covering July and August was also included for RLNG-fired power plants.
The petition also included reductions in previous adjustments, including Rs. 10.7432 billion for July 2026 and Rs. 2.2274 billion for June 2026. Port Qasim Electric Power Company reported a further reduction of Rs. 113.5 million, while Net Saving Amount adjustments for Uch Power were reduced by Rs. 86.1 million.
