The Pakistani rupee (PKR) extended its upward streak against the US dollar for the 166th consecutive trading session on Friday, closing in positive territory once again.
The local currency settled at 278.52 per USD, registering a modest gain of 3 paisas in the latest interbank session.
The rupee also showed a mixed but largely stable performance against other major global currencies, posting gains in several cases while recording minor losses in others.
Against Gulf currencies, the PKR appreciated slightly, gaining 1 paisa each against the UAE dirham (AED) and Saudi riyal (SAR).
In broader currency movement over the past three sessions (20–22 May 2026), the rupee recorded the following changes:
- USD: marginal gain, closing at 278.5235
- EUR: gained overall, despite volatility across sessions
- GBP: strong gain of 51 paisas over the period
- CAD: gained 31 paisas
- AUD: declined by 16 paisas
- CNY: slipped by 2 paisas
- MYR: marginal decline of 1 paisa
- AED & SAR: small gains of around 1 paisa each
The data shows that while the rupee’s movement against the US dollar remains tightly range-bound, it continues to fluctuate mildly against other major currencies depending on global market trends.
Overall, the PKR’s performance reflects continued stability in the interbank market, with no sharp directional shift, but a sustained pattern of gradual strengthening against the US dollar over recent sessions.
