Pakistan has officially entered a new phase of digital infrastructure development with the inauguration of Karakoram-01, the country’s first purpose-built AI-ready data center campus, in Islamabad.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the facility, which has been developed by Sky47 Limited, a majority-owned subsidiary of Mari Energies Limited through its wholly owned subsidiary Mari Technologies Limited.

According to the company, Karakoram-01 is Pakistan’s first dedicated campus built to support artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and other mission-critical digital services.

The facility integrates enterprise-grade data center infrastructure, sovereign cloud services, high-performance AI computing, cybersecurity solutions, and managed IT services into a single platform.

Designed to host sensitive digital workloads within Pakistan, the campus will cater to government institutions, banks, telecom operators, healthcare organizations, and technology companies seeking secure, locally hosted infrastructure.

Mari Energies said the project strengthens Pakistan’s digital ecosystem by providing resilient, secure, and sovereign data hosting capabilities while supporting the country’s rapidly growing demand for AI and cloud technologies.

The company had previously announced plans for the project in January, describing it as Pakistan’s largest AI and cloud infrastructure platform. The latest development was disclosed to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) as material information in accordance with the Securities Act, 2015, and PSX regulations.
