Pakistan has started preparing for a possible gas shortage this winter, with the government planning early measures to manage supplies and reduce pressure on the gas network.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to develop a comprehensive gas load management plan and take necessary steps ahead of the winter season.
A meeting chaired by the prime minister reviewed preparations for managing gas supplies during the colder months.
The government plans to launch a public awareness campaign encouraging households to use alternative energy sources instead of local gas. The campaign will focus on reducing household reliance on gas, particularly for heating and other seasonal needs.
Authorities are also working to ensure uninterrupted gas transmission from reserves in the northern areas of the country.
The government is considering a proposal to facilitate bank financing for electric appliances used for water and space heating. The measure could encourage consumers to shift from gas-powered heating to electricity during winter.
The steps are part of the government’s advance planning to manage seasonal gas demand and maintain supplies during the winter months.
