Pakistan’s electricity shortfall has crossed 4,000 megawatts as several power plants have gone offline and hydropower generation has declined, raising concerns about worsening loadshedding across the country.
Sources in the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) said the nationwide power shortfall has risen to more than 4,000 MW.
Several power plants have been taken offline, while hydropower generation has also declined. Cities and rural areas are currently facing three to four hours of loadshedding.
The shortfall in the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) region has also crossed 1,500 MW.
According to LESCO sources, the increase in the shortfall is due to lower diesel, gas and hydropower generation. The LESCO region is facing forced loadshedding of one hour after every hour.
Sources warned that the country could face severe loadshedding for the next several days.
