The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has proposed a development budget of Rs71.84 billion for FY2026–27, more than three times higher than the current fiscal year’s allocation.
Official planning documents show that the proposed Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) includes 20 IT-sector projects, comprising 12 ongoing schemes and eight new initiatives aimed at expanding Pakistan’s digital infrastructure and technology ecosystem.
For FY2026–27, the ministry has allocated Rs32.13 billion for ongoing projects and Rs39.71 billion for new initiatives. It has also sought Rs37.79 billion for five key ministry-led projects, reflecting a continued focus on digital expansion and capacity building.
The Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) has been allocated Rs24.39 billion for seven ongoing projects. Among major developments, the Islamabad IT Park is 72% complete and requires Rs6.73 billion for completion in the next fiscal year. The Karachi IT Park has been allocated Rs11.5 million under the proposed PSDP.
To support innovation and entrepreneurship, Rs1.802 billion has been earmarked for startup and venture capital-related initiatives. Separately, over Rs1 billion has been proposed for the National Semiconductor Human Resource Development Program to build technical expertise in advanced semiconductor technologies.
The Special Communications Organization (SCO) has proposed Rs2.67 billion for four projects, including a Rs2.5 billion scheme to enhance telecom services in remote and underserved regions. The National Information Technology Board (NITB) has requested Rs743 million for three projects, while Ignite has sought Rs3 billion for a new initiative. The National Telecommunication and Information Security Board (NTISB) has also proposed Rs3.24 billion for its upcoming projects.
