Six temporary cattle markets for sacrificial animals in Islamabad have been auctioned for a record combined amount of Rs. 34.95 crore, with authorities saying the facilities will operate under a cashless system to ensure smoother and more secure transactions.

The auction was conducted in a transparent and merit-based manner, officials said, as demand for temporary livestock markets rose sharply ahead of the Eid season.

Among the sites, the cattle market in Sector I-12 drew the highest bid at Rs. 20.01 crore. The Sangjani market was auctioned for Rs. 6.25 crore, while the site near Zia Mosque fetched Rs. 5 crore. The market at the Sultana Foundation location was sold for Rs. 2.5 crore. Two smaller sites on Japan Road and in Bhara Kahu were auctioned for Rs. 62 lakh and Rs. 61 lakh, respectively.

In total, 104 bidders took part in the auction process, which authorities said reflected strong interest from market operators. Officials added that this year’s auction value was around 120% higher than last year.

Authorities have also stepped up efforts to prevent the emergence of illegal cattle markets across the capital. Teams from the District Municipal Authority are conducting surveillance in different areas, while monitoring and enforcement measures are being tightened to maintain order during the festival period.

Under the directions of CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Sohail Ashraf, a zero-tolerance policy will be enforced against unauthorized cattle markets, officials said.

The temporary markets are being set up to facilitate citizens and help maintain better public health and administrative standards during the Eid-related livestock trade.
