The number of income tax return filers in Pakistan has exceeded 4 million for the tax year 2024, as of October 13, 2024. The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has reported receiving 4.436 million income tax returns, with 1.636 million of these being nil-filers.
In comparison, the previous tax year 2023 saw a total of 6.44 million return filers, which included 3.49 million nil returns. This indicates a significant portion of filers in both years submitted returns with no taxable income.
For the current tax year, the FBR has collected Rs. 114,338 million in taxes along with the returns filed. Since July 1, 2023, a total of 1,035,922 individuals have registered, of which 622,102 are nil-filers. From July 2024 to date, 450,405 individuals have registered, including 307,482 nil-filers.
