Pakistan’s increased petrol levy is generating millions of rupees in additional revenue for the government each day due to higher fuel consumption.

Officials said the revised levy on petrol is bringing in roughly Rs. 90 million in extra revenue daily. So far, the government has collected about Rs. 500 million under the updated levy framework.

If fuel consumption remains at the current pace, the government could receive between Rs. 3 billion and Rs. 3.5 billion in additional revenue over a month.

Pakistan’s total daily consumption of petroleum products is estimated at around 55 million litres. Of this, petrol accounts for approximately 22,000 tons per day, while high-speed diesel (HSD) consumption stands at about 19,000 tons daily.

Following the latest adjustment in fuel prices, the petroleum levy on petrol has been increased to Rs. 105.37 per litre, reflecting a rise of Rs. 20.97 per litre.

Since petrol usage exceeds diesel consumption, the higher levy on petrol is playing a significant role in boosting government revenues. In contrast, the levy on high-speed diesel has been reduced by Rs. 20.97 per litre to Rs. 55.24 per litre.
