The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has warned of possible flooding in rivers, streams, and low-lying urban areas across parts of Pakistan from July 19 to July 23 due to an intense monsoon spell.

In a statement, the NDMA said a strong monsoon system, combined with a western weather disturbance, is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and upper Punjab between July 20 and July 23.

The authority warned that the downpours could trigger flash floods and hill torrents in Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, AJK, and northern parts of upper Punjab.

It also cautioned that River Chenab at Marala and the upper reaches of River Jhelum near Mangla could experience increased water flows and flood conditions during the forecast period.

The NDMA advised residents, particularly those living near rivers, streams, and low-lying areas, to remain vigilant and follow official weather advisories as the heavy rain spell continues.
