The federal government has dismissed reports of a urea shortage, assuring farmers that Pakistan has sufficient fertilizer stocks and faces no risk of supply disruptions ahead of the upcoming crop season.

The assurance came during a meeting chaired by Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain with Punjab Agriculture Minister Syed Muhammad Ashiq Hussain Shah to review fertilizer availability, pricing, and distribution.

The meeting focused on ensuring an uninterrupted supply of fertilizer at affordable prices through closer coordination between the federal and provincial governments and fertilizer manufacturers. Officials also discussed measures to improve the supply chain and keep prices stable.

Rana Tanveer said the government is working with all provinces and industry stakeholders to ensure farmers have timely access to fertilizer throughout the season. He added that he has asked fertilizer manufacturers to reduce urea prices to ease the financial burden on farmers.

“There is no shortage of fertilizers in Pakistan,” the minister said, adding that fertilizer plants are operating normally, market supplies remain adequate, and there is no indication of shortages in the coming months.

The government’s clarification comes as farmers prepare for the next sowing season amid concerns over rising agricultural input costs and fertilizer prices.
