The nationwide strike by goods transporters will continue after talks between the All Pakistan Goods Transport Owners Association and the federal government ended without a final settlement on Tuesday.

The negotiations took place at the Ministry of Communications, where the two sides discussed the transporters’ demands and the issues disrupting the country’s freight transport sector.

Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan assured the transporters that the government would cooperate in addressing their concerns and work toward resolving the issues.

However, no agreement was reached on the demands, prompting the transporters to maintain their ongoing wheel-jam strike across the country.

Association President Muhammad Owais Chaudhry Advocate said the transport community was prepared to hold further discussions with the government but would not suspend the strike until its demands were formally accepted and implemented.

The association is seeking uniform enforcement of legally prescribed axle-load limits, tax relief, and a change in the mechanism for diesel price adjustments, calling for prices to be revised monthly instead of daily.

The transporters have also maintained that their demands are legitimate and lawful and that they will not compromise on them.

Chaudhry said the association wanted to resolve the matter through negotiations and would keep the dialogue channel open. However, he reiterated that the strike would remain in force until the government accepts the transporters’ demands.

The goods transport strike will therefore continue nationwide until a concrete agreement is reached.
