Pakistan has expanded the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) overseas immigration network to eight countries to improve coordination with foreign authorities and tackle human smuggling, trafficking and immigration fraud.

FIA immigration link offices are now operating at Pakistani missions in Oman, Iran, Greece, the UK, Italy, Spain, Turkey and the UAE.

The officers coordinate directly with foreign immigration, border control and law enforcement agencies. Their work includes verifying Pakistani nationals, dealing with suspected fake documents, arranging emergency travel documents, supporting repatriation and assisting Pakistanis held by foreign authorities.

The FIA office in the UK, established in December 2025, has handled more than 150 nationality verification cases and over 124 documentation-related cases.

In Italy, FIA officers have dealt with thousands of immigration cases and identified suspected human-smuggling agents and forged-document cases.

Iran has also seen significant FIA activity, with more than 34,000 Pakistanis safely repatriated between 2024 and August 2026. The agency also helped evacuate more than 15,700 Pakistanis during the Iran-Israel conflict.

In Greece, the FIA is coordinating with local authorities over irregular migration routes and the repatriation of Pakistani nationals.

The FIA is also using its offices in Oman, Spain, Turkey and the UAE to strengthen immigration checks and action against trafficking and smuggling networks.

The government is considering expanding the network to Saudi Arabia and Poland.

The overseas offices are separate from Community Welfare Attachés. Welfare officers mainly deal with employment and welfare issues, while FIA officials focus on immigration verification, fraud, trafficking, smuggling and repatriation.
