Authorities in Islamabad have sealed a popular fast food outlet, “Red Apple,” located in F-6 Markaz after allegations emerged regarding the issuance of unverified and non-authenticated sales tax receipts.
Initial reports indicate that tax enforcement teams took action following concerns that improper or non-standard invoices were being issued, triggering a compliance review. Officials subsequently moved in and sealed the premises after confirming suspected irregularities.
The enforcement action comes amid a broader tightening of tax monitoring across the food and beverage sector.
This development follows a similar high-profile case in Lahore, where multiple branches of the “Double Shot” coffee chain were sealed by the Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA). The action against Double Shot was linked to alleged violations of electronic invoicing regulations, discrepancies in reported sales, and suspected under-reporting of revenue identified through the Electronic Invoice Monitoring System (EIMS).
Tax authorities have maintained that such violations not only undermine transparency but also lead to significant losses in legitimate government revenue, and fall under breaches of provincial tax laws.
