US President Donald J. Trump on Friday issued a series of posts on his Truth Social platform thanking Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir following Iran’s announcement that it has opened the Strait of Hormuz to all commercial traffic.
In his statement, Trump said Iran had “agreed to never close the Strait of Hormuz again,” adding that the vital maritime route would “no longer be used as a weapon against the world.”
In a separate post, he specifically acknowledged Pakistan’s leadership, writing: “Thank you to Pakistan and its great Prime Minister and Field Marshal, two fantastic people!!!”
The remarks came shortly after Iran confirmed the reopening of the strategic waterway, one of the world’s most important oil transit chokepoints, where any disruption can have immediate global economic consequences.
Earlier, Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi announced on X that, in line with the ceasefire in Lebanon, commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz would remain open for the duration of the truce, operating under coordinated maritime routes already outlined by Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organisation.
The development follows heightened attention on global energy markets, as the Strait of Hormuz plays a critical role in international oil supply chains.
