A crash involving a BYD Tang SUV and a 10-ton dump truck has gone viral in China after the driver reportedly survived the devastating impact with only minor injuries.
According to reports shared online, the dump truck allegedly ran a red light before crashing directly into the SUV at high speed. The force of the collision reportedly dragged the vehicle for more than 50 meters, leaving the SUV severely mangled.
Images from the scene showed major structural damage, including crushed doors and a heavily twisted body frame. Despite the destruction, the driver was said to have escaped with only minor leg injuries.
The incident has triggered widespread discussion on social media, with many users praising the SUV’s safety design after the passenger cabin appeared to remain largely intact during the crash. Reports also claimed that all airbags deployed properly at the moment of impact.
The vehicle involved was the BYD Tang, a seven-seat SUV known in China for its strong safety ratings and reinforced body structure. Some owners have nicknamed it a “road tank” because of its heavy-duty build quality and crash protection.
Much of the attention following the accident has focused on the Tang’s body construction, which reportedly uses around 63 percent ultra-high-strength steel. The SUV has also performed strongly in Chinese crash safety evaluations, where testing standards have become increasingly strict in recent years.
The BYD Tang is available in both fully electric and plug-in hybrid versions. Higher-end variants feature all-wheel drive and power output of up to 510 horsepower.
Top EV versions are claimed to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in as little as 3.9 seconds, while the electric model offers a reported driving range of up to 950 kilometers. Plug-in hybrid variants can travel around 110 kilometers on electric power alone and exceed 1,000 kilometers in combined range.
The SUV also includes BYD’s Blade Battery technology, fast charging support, Brembo brakes, and a premium seven-seat interior, helping it compete with established global SUV brands in both Chinese and international markets.
