A strange online prediction market listing has taken social media by storm after users discovered a poll assigning odds to the possible return of Jesus Christ later this year.

The prediction, hosted by Polymarket, began circulating widely on X, triggering a wave of reactions ranging from amusement and disbelief to criticism over turning a deeply religious belief into a betting-style forecast.

The platform — which describes itself as the world’s largest prediction market — reportedly promoted the listing as an advertisement during the same week U.S. President Donald Trump shared an AI-generated religious-themed image online. The timing, combined with easing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, led many users to label the moment a “perfect example of the internet in 2026.”

Online debate quickly followed, with some questioning whether sacred religious concepts should appear in speculative markets, while others viewed the listing as satire reflecting modern internet culture’s increasingly blurred boundaries between faith, politics, and entertainment.

One widely shared reaction joked that if the Second Coming truly happened, “collecting winnings would probably be the least of anyone’s concerns,” highlighting how many users interpreted the market more as humor than a serious prediction.

The discussion also prompted religious reflections. Commentators noted that Jesus holds importance beyond Christianity. In Islam, Jesus is revered as a major prophet who is believed to return before the Day of Judgment, preceding the final prophet, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The viral episode underscores how prediction markets and social media continue to merge global events, religion, and online culture into conversations that rapidly capture worldwide attention.
