Punjab Minister for Livestock and Agriculture, Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani, announced that the provincial government plans to establish fixed prices for chicken meat in collaboration with all stakeholders.

The announcement came during a meeting in Lahore with a delegation led by Muhammad Nusrat, Chairman of the Pakistan Poultry Association. The delegation included representatives from the Punjab Poultry Association, Poultry Traders Association, and Broiler Farmers Association. The meeting focused on reviewing the chicken supply chain and pricing mechanisms.

Various options for setting broiler chicken prices were discussed during the meeting. The Secretary of Livestock Punjab noted that chicken prices had recently surged by Rs. 70 per kg, a trend not attributed to supply and demand issues.

Muhammad Nusrat, Chairman of the Pakistan Poultry Association, shared business-related problems and concerns with the Provincial Livestock Minister.

In response, Minister Kirmani promised to address these concerns and emphasized that the Punjab government will set chicken prices with input from all stakeholders. He added that the government will allow a 15 to 20 percent profit margin on production costs and work to lower the current high prices.

The Livestock Secretary will formulate a pricing plan, which will be sent to the Chief Minister for approval. The Poultry Association agreed to cooperate with the government to help reduce prices.

This initiative aims to stabilize chicken prices and ensure fair profit margins for producers while addressing the concerns of consumers and industry stakeholders.
