The Pakistan Meteorological Department (Met Office) has forecasted additional monsoon rains across the country from August 9 to 12, with occasional gaps.

Strong monsoon currents are expected to penetrate from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal into the upper and central parts of Pakistan.

Regional Forecasts:

Kashmir: Rain, wind, and thundershowers with isolated heavy falls are expected in Neelum Valley,
Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur from August 9 to 12.

Punjab/Islamabad: Rain, wind, and thundershowers with scattered heavy falls are anticipated in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Tala Gang, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Pakpattan, Kasur, Khushab, and Sargodha from August 9 to 12. Additionally, isolated heavy falls are expected in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Khanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan, and Layyah on the evenings/nights of August 10 and 11.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa: Rain, wind, and thundershowers with isolated heavy falls are forecasted in Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Swabi, Nowshera, Mardan, Charsadda, Hangu, Kurram, Orakzai, Waziristan, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, and Dera Ismail Khan from August 9 to 12.

Balochistan: Rain, wind, and thundershowers with isolated heavy falls are expected in Khuzdar, Lasbella, Kalat, Zhob, Barkhan, Musa Khel, Mastung, Sibbi, Shirani, Kohlu, Bolan, Harnai, Naseerabad, Jaffarabad, and the Makran coast on the evenings/nights of August 9, 11, and 12.

Sindh: Rain, wind, and thundershowers are anticipated at isolated places in Mithi, Sanghar, Mitayari, Nausheroferoze, Jamshoro, Umarkot, Tharparkar, Mirpur Khas, Khairpur, Thatta, Badin, Chhor, Padidan, Sajawal, Karachi, Hyderabad, Tando Allayar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Dadu from the evening/night of August 9 to August 11.

Gilgit-Baltistan: Mainly partly cloudy to cloudy weather conditions are expected, with rainfall activity in Diamir, Astore, Skardu, Gilgit, Ghanche, and Shigar from the evening/night of August 9 to August 12.

Possible Impacts and Advisories:

Flash Flooding: Heavy rains may generate flash flooding in local nullahs and streams in Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Northeast Punjab, Hill torrents of D.G. Khan, and Kashmir from August 9 to 11. Similar conditions are expected in Kalat, Khuzdar, Barkhan, and Lasbella on August 9, 11, and 12.

Urban Flooding: Heavy downpours may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Nowshera, and Peshawar from August 9 to 12.

Landslides: Landslides may cause road closures in vulnerable hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan during the wet period.

Windstorm and Lightning: Heavy downpours, windstorms, and lightning may disrupt daily routines and damage weak structures such as roofs, walls of Kacha houses, electric poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels.

Farmers and Travelers: Farmers are advised to manage their activities according to the weather forecast. Travelers and tourists should remain extra cautious and plan their travel to avoid any untoward situations during the wet spell.

The Met Office urges all concerned to take necessary precautions to mitigate the potential impacts of the upcoming monsoon rains.
