Pakistan has secured another extension of Saudi Arabia’s $3 billion deposit, providing relief to its external financing position and giving the country more time before repayment.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb confirmed the rollover while speaking to reporters at Parliament House on Wednesday. He said the extension had been agreed following discussions between Pakistani and Saudi officials.
The finance minister also said Pakistan was not seeking additional financial assistance from Saudi Arabia at present.
Aurangzeb said Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves were enough to cover approximately three months of imports. He added that the government was also working to spread external debt repayments more evenly rather than allowing large obligations to fall due in a single year.
He noted that Pakistan faces annual Eurobond repayments of around €1.5 billion and that efforts were underway to manage these payments without creating financial pressure for future governments.
The rollover strengthens Pakistan’s external financing position as it continues to manage foreign debt repayments and maintain its foreign exchange reserves.
