Pakistan has launched the procurement of imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the upcoming winter, inviting international suppliers to provide two shipments for December 2026 and January 2027.

Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL), a state-owned company responsible for arranging LNG imports, has issued a tender for the cargoes as the country prepares for higher gas consumption during the colder months.

Each shipment could cost approximately $100 million at current market prices, putting the estimated combined value of the two imports at around $200 million.

Pakistan Seeks Two LNG Cargoes for Winter

According to the tender notice, PLL is seeking two LNG shipments on a Delivered Ex-Ship (DES) basis at Port Qasim in Karachi.

The first cargo is scheduled for delivery between December 14 and 16, 2026, while the second is expected between January 9 and 11, 2027.

Each shipment will contain approximately 140,000 cubic meters of LNG, with an allowable variation of plus or minus 5 percent.

The procurement is being conducted under tender number PLL/IMP/LNGT80, with bids invited from established international suppliers.

Rising LNG Prices Could Increase Import Bill

The procurement comes as Pakistan prepares for higher natural gas consumption during winter, when household demand for heating typically increases.

However, the timing could make imports more expensive, as international spot LNG prices have approached their highest levels since 2022.

At current market rates, the two shipments could cost approximately $200 million combined. The final expenditure will depend on the prices offered by international suppliers and the terms agreed under the procurement process.

PLL’s tender specifies the required quantities and delivery schedules but does not disclose a final purchase price.
