The federal government wants schools, colleges and universities to teach students about cybersecurity and online fraud to help protect young people from digital threats.
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar announced the need for stronger digital education while addressing the closing ceremony of Cybersecurity Awareness Week on Thursday.
He said Pakistan needed stronger regulations and updated policies to address emerging risks as technology continues to evolve.
Tarar stressed that digital literacy should cover fake news, cyberattacks, online scams and internet safety. He said children and young people must learn how to identify online threats and protect themselves while using digital platforms.
The minister also called for changes to educational curricula to include digital skills and cybersecurity awareness.
He said the government would need to work with relevant stakeholders through consultations, meetings and training sessions to improve public understanding of online risks.
Tarar emphasized that cybersecurity awareness should reach people across the country. He also encouraged young people to take a more active role in strengthening Pakistan’s digital security.
His remarks come amid growing concerns about online fraud, cyberbullying and increasingly sophisticated digital threats.
